In case you haven't heard yet, as of
January 1, 2014 there will no longer be automatic gratuity added onto large
parties. The government see's it as a "service charge" and feels that waiters should be taxed on it. This is why many restaurants choose to do away
with it all together. While some people are okay with it and feel it does not
make much of a difference, others feel the opposite and feel like it has really
affected them or someone they care about.
For those who feel that this
has affected them negatively, there is now a petition in order to help get
automatic gratuity back! It will only take a few minutes to go to the website
and sign up. They need 100,000 signatures by March 12, 2014. A of today, February
19, 2014, they only have a little over 8,700 which means they need about 91,000
more.
In
order to sign this petition all you have to do is follow these 3 easy steps:
1) Create an account by putting in your:
- E-mail address
- Your name
- Zip code
2) Go to your e-mail and open up what
WhiteHouse.gov has sent you. Chick on the link they give you to verify you have
a working e-mail.
3) You're there! Now click on sign the petition and
it will let you know what number you are and how many people are still needed.
