100 Things Restaurant Staffers Should NEVER Do

Have you ever gone out to dinner and received bad service? I'm sure there has been at least one time that comes to mind when asked that question. Being in the restaurant service industry, I find myself to be very picky when it comes to the way I am treated when I go out to eat. I look for the small things, things that I know I always do for my tables. Customer service is important to me, which is why I feel that bad service should not be tolerated. You are going out to enjoy yourself and nothing can ruin it more then bad waiter.

The New York Times has come up with a list of "100 Things Restaurant Staffers Should Never Do.” Their list is very accurate filled with things I don't think should be done by restaurant servers, things I have heard people complain about in the past, and things people should be aware of. If you work in a restaurant, whether you are a waiter, host, busser, or even a manager, you can never have enough information on what not to do and what people do not like. Feel free to read over these articles and see if you find yourself doing any of these things. I know I do. But it is my job, as well as yours, to fix your mistakes, learn from them, move on, and make sure they never happen again.

I also found a video of some bad service that I thought was pretty funny and worth sharing.

$1,075 tip!

For my first post, I figured I would start off with the amazing side and benefits that come with being a restautant server. Depending on tips to pay your bills can be extremely hard and stressful, but for Knoxville Tennessee resident Khadijah Muhammad, that stressful day at work turned into an extraordinary one. What started out as a slow day on the job turned into exactly what she needed to help her get back on her feet.

Earlier in the month she had to take some time off of work to go visit her mother in Ohio because she suffered from a hear attack. Upon returning, she realized that she had missed so much work and had no idea how she would be able to afford to pay any of her bills. Before leaving work that day she received a final notice that if she did not pay her electric bill it would be shut off.

However, when she realized that a table of 3 left her a $1,017 tip on a $29.30 check, her mind was blown. "I just remember seeing a comma after the one and knew it wasn't $10," said Muhammad. "I was like 'Oh, my God!' And I just lost my balance and U was like, 'Does this say a thousand dollar?' I could not believe it." Upon reading the check, she noticed that the family wrote a little note saying "Jesus Blessed us and we were led to give it to you. God Bless!"

Anybody who is in the service industry dreams of this happening to them. However, I believe that this happened to the right person at the right time. Muhammad needed this extra money, and I'm sure she was beyond grateful.

If anyone has any great stories like this, with unbelievable tips please feel free to share!! I would love to hear them all.
